These indicators often reveal whether hiring practices are creating lasting opportunities or simply improving recruiting statistics.
The Most Effective DEI Strategy Is One People Actually Use
One experience stands out to me. A company had invested heavily in DEI training, yet hiring outcomes barely changed. When we looked closer, we found the hiring process itself hadn’t changed at all. Interviewers still used different questions, managers relied heavily on intuition, and job requirements remained unnecessarily restrictive.
Rather than launching another initiative, the company simplified its hiring process, standardized interviews, clarified job requirements, and reviewed hiring data quarterly. Those practical improvements produced more meaningful progress than any standalone program had.
That reinforced something I’ve believed for years: sustainable DEI isn’t built through one-time initiatives. It’s built through everyday hiring habits that make decisions more consistent, more objective, and more focused on talent.
When fairness becomes part of the process instead of a separate initiative, better hiring outcomes tend to follow naturally for candidates, hiring teams, and the business as a whole.
